Sniper Elite 5 retains the core gameplay of stealth that made earlier titles like Sniper Elite and Sniper Elite V2 popular hits, but it also adds a new level of realism, making the action more visceral than ever before. This popular stealth sniper simulation is available on PC and consoles.
Stealth missions
The plot of Sniper Elite 5 is set in France in 1944. On stealth missions, your job is to plot your way across hostile terrain, including real-world locations. You will be confronted by brutal soldiers who are hunting you down to kill you, but you can take them out first with sharp aim and the right set of tactical maneuvers.
Realistic sniping action
Sniper Elite 5 is designed to make the action biologically accurate. When you shoot an enemy, you will see an X-ray-like view of their organs and muscles. This view lets you see which areas of their anatomy you have injured or destroyed. The gruesome nature of armed combat is accurately recreated, although it’s very disturbing, especially to younger audiences or those with a fear of blood.
Customization options
The game boasts a range of customization options that you can tailor to provide certain gameplay advantages. Using in-game workbenches, you can alter and upgrade your weapon, such as swapping scopes, barrels, magazines, stocks, and other areas to create a customized weapon that suits your personal needs. Various ammo types are also available, offering different results — some are non-lethal, while others cause extensive injury.
Multiplayer modes
Finally, Sniper Elite 5 offers a multiplayer mode. You can compete against your friends in heavily tense adversarial matches, where one player takes control of the protagonist, Karl, while others control enemy snipers to take him out first. Alternatively, you can control allied snipers and confront the opposing force together in co-op mode.
A final mission in Kraken Awakes
Kraken Awakes is the final content for Sniper Elite 5 and offers a suspenseful mission that brings the story to an end. In this DLC, you discover that Project Kraken is still active and ongoing. It’s up to Karl to finally bring an end to this criminal operation. The mission takes place at an aircraft carrier, and Karl will have to infiltrate it and defeat the mastermind, Friedrich Vogel.
The DLC also comes with a neat new pistol, the Mod.712, which is a modified variant of the C96 pistol. The modifications of this highly classified handgun include detachable magazines and a high rate of fire, perfect for close-range combat. Several All-American-themed skins can also be found, such as the American Airborne skin for Karl, and a Patriot skin for all your weapons.
In addition, the latest patch notes include several fixes addressing some known general gameplay issues, as well as bugs in game modes such as Campaign, Survival, and Multiplayer. Most notable ones include ammo crates that should now provide the correct amount, a bug fix for vehicles in the Spy Academy mission, correcting assigned command posts for Survival mode, and respawning with all pistol parts in Multiplayer mode.
A tense and gruesome experience
Overall, Sniper Elite 5 offers a true stealth experience, wherein every decision that you make affects the outcome of your mission. It rewards players who think before they act, and those who come up with smart strategies. The violence is definitely there, due to some gruesome scenes, but this adds to the realism that the game is designed around, and gives players a glimpse of the horrors of war.
